What Happened with CENTURA Health?
Centura was a joint venture between a Catholic hospital mission (Catholic Health Initiatives) and the Adventist Hospital mission (Advent Health). They both had common goals and missions. During covid, many hospitals and hospital systems struggled as they were shut down from performing surgeries that are their lifeblood economically. The hospitals made money from patients being in the hospital... but they weren't using the surgery centers. The government paid extra money for every patient that died from Covid (remember hearing about inflated numbers of Covid deaths?) Even with the extra income from the Covid deaths, people were holding off surgeries for months. Hospitals and hospital systems have struggled financially. Centura was losing money... I read in some sources in the range of $7 million in 2022.

In the meantime, nationally, Catholic Health initiatives formed "Common Spirit" in 2019 as a system for the Catholic hospitals. This is the largest non-profit system (by revenue) in the nation.

In 2023, It was decided to break up Centura and the "church" hospitals would go back to their respective denominations. The Catholic hospitals are all in the Common Spirit system. The Adventist hospitals are back with Advent health.

In general, the insurance companies that were in network with Centura are in network with both Advent and Common Spirit. If your doctor hasn't said anything - you should be fine or can always check. If you want to look at anything new - Please CALL ME!
